WPL 2023 Final: "We Know What They Can Do" - MI-W Captain Harmanpreet Kaur Discusses Battle Plans Ahead of The Final Against DC-W

Mumbai Indians Women captain Harmanpreet Kaur opened up about the strengths of their opponents, Delhi Capitals Women, ahead of the two sides facing in the final of WPL 2023.

Kaur and Co. won the eliminator to determine the second finalist against UP Warriorz in a convincing fashion, defeating the UP-based franchise by 72 runs.

On the other hand, DC topped the tournament’s league table, winning 6 out of their 8 matches. This resulted in them directly qualifying for the final. The two teams are now set to scrap it out to become the inaugural WPL champions.

Talking about Delhi’s explosive opening pair in captain Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur referenced how the pair took the match away from MI when the two teams last met.

“They have the best combination in the whole tournament and they also did well against us in the last game. We know what they can do and how dangerous they can be. We have our plans and hopefully we are able to execute them.

“We have many leaders in the camp, people who have captained their team and also been vice-captains. Some of the Indian players like Amanjot (Kaur) did well in South Africa. This makes for a great team environment,” Kaur said.

DC and MI have faced twice in WPL 2023, having one match a piece. With them finishing 1st and 2nd on the points table, it is only fair that the tiebreaker between the two sides will also determine the tournament champion.

MI-W trounced UP Warriorz in a history-making eliminator in WPL 2023

MI defeated UP Warriorz by 72 runs in the WPL 2023 eliminator in a match that saw the league’s first hat trick.

While batting first, Nat Sciver-Brunt would emerge as Mumbai’s top batter, scoring 72-off-38. Meaningful contributions by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Yastika Bhatia, Hayley Matthews, and Amelia Kerr took them to 182 in 20 overs.

UP’s chase got off to a poor start, losing 4 wickets in the first 10 overs. When it looked like Kiran Navgire is pulling the match away from the Indians, 20-year-old pacer Issy Wong took the first hat-trick in WPL history, scalping Navgire, Simran Shaikh, and Sophie Ecclestone in the 13th over. Warriorz were ultimately bowled out for 110.

Mumbai Indians Women will face Delhi Capitals Women in the final of WPL 2023 at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, March 26.
