Harmanpreet Kaur was one of the biggest picks for the Mumbai Indians franchise at the WPL Auction 2023. The franchise picked the star batter for Rs. 1.80 crore during the auction. She had a base price of Rs. 50 lakh in the auction.

Harmanpreet Kaur Named Mumbai Indians Women’s Captain
Mumbai Indians franchise owner Neeta Ambani released an official statement in which she informed that Harmanpreet Kaur will be leading the team in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League.
“We are thrilled to have Harmanpreet as the captain of Mumbai Indians’ first-ever women’s cricket team. As the national captain, she has led the Indian Women’s team to some of their most exciting wins. And I am sure that with Charlotte and Jhulan’s support, she will inspire our MI women’s team to play their best cricket, display a sense of pride, and bring even more glory to women in sports”, the statement read.

Mumbai Indians will play their opening game of WPL 2023 on March 4 against Gujarat Giants at DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. It is also the opening game of the tournament. There are 5 teams in the tournament. Every team will face other teams twice during the league stage, playing a total of 8 games.
Charlotte Edwards is the head coach of Mumbai Indians Women. Former India pacer Jhulan Goswami is the bowling coach while Devieka Palshikaar is the batting coach. Lydia Greenway has been appointed by the team as the fielding coach.
