We are inching closer to the first-ever edition of the Women’s Premier League. And, we have another major update coming in as UP Warriorz have announced Alyssa Healy as their captain for the upcoming season. The Australian star is currently a part of the national side for the ongoing T20 World Cup, and it will be interesting to see if Alyssa Healy can replicate the same success with her new franchise.

During the first-ever Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction held in Mumbai, the UP Warriorz team made a significant acquisition by signing Alyssa Healy for Rs 70 lakh. Healy, known for being one of the most formidable opening batters in the world, will undoubtedly bring her attacking prowess to the team.

Alyssa Healy is one of the most recognizable figures in the sport and brings a wealth of experience to the game. With 139 T20I appearances for Australia, she has accumulated almost 2,500 runs, including one century and 14 half-centuries. Healy is also widely considered as one of the top wicket-keeper batters, having taken 110 dismissals in T20Is.

The Australian star is a crucial addition to the side and will bring a lot of experience with her in the side. Alyssa Healy addressed the fans as she was appointed as the skipper for UP Warriorz calling it a great opportunity.

“I am delighted to have the chance to captain the UP Warriorz in the inaugural edition of the historic WPL that will be played in Mumbai. The WPL is a tournament we have all been keenly waiting on, and the UP Warriorz have a fantastic squad.

“Waiting to make a splash once things get going. We have a good mix of experience and youth along with the ability and look forward to putting on a show for our fans. We are here to win and be ruthless in our brand of cricket,” Healy stated.

The Women’s Premier League has been scheduled to take place in Mumbai from March 4th to March 26th, 2023. The tournament will showcase 22 matches that will be hosted by the Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium. The UP Warriorz will begin their season on March 5th, playing against the Gujarat Giants in the second match of the day at the DY Patil Stadium.
