The inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) is expected to be a fascinating league where all 5 teams are evenly matched.  The opening fixture of WPL: Mumbai Indians Women vs Gujarat Giants is going to be a cracker of a contest where both the teams have good depth in the batting & bowling department.

BCCI would be aiming that WPL does wonders for the Indian Women’s Cricket Team the same way WBBL has done for Australia. With all the matches to be played in Mumbai, we can see a run fest, as we witnessed in the India Women vs Australia Women T20I series where we witnessed scintillating contests.

Exciting Contest on Cards

Gujarat Giants (GG) skipper Beth Mooney won the toss & elected to bowl first in the opening fixture against Mumbai Indians Women. Beth Mooney hinted that bowling would be quite easier as there is a good layer of grass. Harmanpreet Kaur-led MI side would be aiming to get a total in excess of 150 as GG has got a long batting lineup.

The ground dimensions of DY Patil Stadium are not that big where batters would be aiming to get their eye in and then capitalize on the start.  The peculiarity of GG is that they have got a lot of match winners present in the team in the form of Beth Mooney, Ashleigh Gardner & Annabel Sutherland. BCCI would be hoping that WPL kicks off in a similar manner as IPL did way back in 2008 which changed the game of cricket.
