Parth Jindal, a co-owner of Delhi Capitals (DC), offered his opinion on the spending pattern used by other teams at the WPL Auction 2023 on Monday, February 13. The five teams competing in the Women’s Premier League (WPLdebut )’s season engaged in a bidding war to hire players and create their roster.

According to their bracket, the players’ basic costs were 50 lakh, 40 lakh, 30 lakh, and 10 lakh for each team’s 12 crore budget. During the marquee set, which began the auction, a number of franchisees bet everything.

People Spent A Lot On Marquee Players: Parth Jindal

Jindal told ESPNcricinfo that he was upset with clubs for spending such a colossal sum of money on a single player.

“A lot of money got spent on the marquee list by the other teams. “People spent almost 30% of their purse on one player. Smriti Mandhana went for INR 3.4 crore out of 12 [crore], that’s 27-28% of their purse. That’s like spending 30 crore on one player in the men’s IPL. You can’t do that! According to me, you can’t do that, but they did.”

Jindal expressed his delight at the possibility of obtaining important Indian players for a fair price.

“People spent a lot on the marquee players and that didn’t leave much money for some of the other Indians. So when a few of the sets got over, we were in a very sweet spot because we had Jemimah, Shafali, Lanning, and we were ready with money to pick up whoever we wanted to pick up. We’re very happy, fingers crossed, we’ve built a good squad.”

After the UP Warriorz, the Delhi Capitals (DC) were the second team to compile the squad’s maximum of 18 players.

DC had a significant role in the auction’s expedited round after obtaining important players like Marizanne Kapp and Alice Capsey before the break.

According to WPL regulations, five foreign players are permitted in the starting XI as long as the fifth player is from an associate country.

By placing an offer for American bowler Tara Norris, DC became the only team to acquire an associate player (USA). The Gujarat Giants sought to sign an associate player as well, but they had used up their allotted six foreign players.

Jindal claimed that he could not comprehend why other WPL teams did not make an offer for an associate player.

“You can only play five foreigners if you play an Associate player in the XI, so it makes all the sense to take one. I don’t know why they didn’t. I know Gujarat [Giants] tried later but they had run out of foreign slots.”

DC’s primary players provide a wide variety of leadership choices. A call on leadership will shortly be made, the co-owner said.
