BCCI Provides Update On Fast Bowler Avesh Khan's Injury

India fast bowler Avesh Khan had sustained a painful blow to his appendage during the Indians vs County Select XI match. Avesh, who is in England as a reserve bowler for the Indian team, was playing for the County Select XI on request from the host team, who were a couple of players short.

Avesh, who is yet to make his India debut in any of the three formats, has been impressive enough in the domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL), that many expected him to be in the Indian team for the Sri Lanka limited-overs tour, instead, he was picked for the England tour as a reserve player.

Avesh opened the bowling with Craig Miles for the county Select XI, after Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. However, the Madhya Pradesh bowler was in for some punishment as Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul and Hanuma Vihari took him for plenty as he either bowled too short or too full.

BCCI Provides Update On Avesh Khan’s Injury:

Avesh Khan sustained an injury after he received a sickening blow on his left hand during his second spell in the ongoing warm-up game at Chester-Le-Street in Durham. The incident happened on the fifth ball of the 35th over when Hanuma Vihari drilled a fullish length delivery straight to Avesh Khan.

Avesh immediately reacted in pain and pressed his left thumb. Khan instantly called for the Indian medical staff while grimacing in intense pain and his India teammate Hanuma Vihari was extremely concerned for his wellbeing and was quick to check on his countryman.

Khan left the field with the Indian physio shortly afterward and his over was eventually completed by Craig Miles. The commentators on air opined that Avesh might have dislocated his left thumb after the blow.

Now the BCCI has given an update on Avesh Khan’s injury on his left thumb and stated on Twitter that the fast bowler has gone for scans and the BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his injury.

Meanwhile, India found itself in a good position after decent contributions from Mayank Agarwal (28), Cheteshwar Pujara (21), and Hanuma Vihari (24). But the cherry went to KL Rahul, who slammed a brilliant 101 in 150 balls with 11 fours and 1 six before retiring out.
