IPL 2024 Points Table

The IPL is all set to kickstart from 22nd March, at Chepauk where RCB and CSK will lock horns to begin their campaign on a winning note and take a lead on the IPL match points list.

Indian Premier League points table is the arrangement of all the participating teams based on their performances in the league, with the best team being on the top. The ultimate goal of the teams is to perform their best and make their way to the top of the table and eventually lift the trophy. The top four teams of the IPL points table qualify for the knockouts.

Each winning team gets two points for each match, and 1 point if the match is drawn or left for some reason. The teams keep accumulating points and climb their way on the Indian Premier League match points table. If at the time of qualification, two teams end up on the same number of points in the latest IPL points table, NRR (Net run rate) comes into the picture. The team with the higher NRR qualifies in the case of such disputes.

The NRR is calculated as the difference between “the runs scored in the overs faced” to “the runs conceded by the team in the overs bowled” in the same match.

CSK is the only team out of the original 8 teams that never finished last on the IPL men’s T20 points table while Delhi Daredevils/Delhi Capitals have ended last four times, that is the most number of times.

Indian Premier League points table plays a crucial role in the format, by analyzing the standings of each time, based on which teams are qualified. Keep an eye on the league points table at Cricket Addictor.

IPL 2024 got underway on March 22 with a mouth-watering clash between reigning champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. A total of ten teams are participating in the seventeenth season of the IPL.

IPL 2024 Points Table Rules:

Each team will be playing a total of 14 league games in IPL 2024. At the end of the league stage, the top four teams in the IPL 2024 Points Table will qualify for the playoffs. The two teams in the points table will get two shots at the final.

The standing in the points table is decided on the basis of the number of points earned by the teams. In case, more than one team finish with the same number of points, the team with the better net run-rate (NRR) progresses to the next stage.

Here are the IPL 2024 Points Table rules:

  • A team will earn two points for a win and no points for a loss.
  • In case, the game is abandoned, each team will get one point each.

How is NRR calculated?

NRR has been the preferred method of breaking the stalemate in a multi-team tournament. The NRR for a particular team is calculated by deducting from the average runs scored per over by that team during the tournament, the average runs scored per over against that team throughout the tournament.

What does for/against score points in the IPL Points Table mean?

In the IPL Points Table, the 'for' denotes the runs scored and wickets lost by a particular team throughout the competition while the 'against' denotes the total number of runs conceded and wickets taken by the same team.

How many points are needed to qualify for the IPL playoffs?

There is no such rule regarding the minimum number of points required to qualify for the playoffs. The top four teams with most number of points progress to the playoffs. Over the years, one has seen that at least seven wins are needed to make it to the next stage.

Net RR: Net run rate,

The NRR is calculated as the difference between “the runs scored in the overs faced” to “the runs conceded by the team in the overs bowled” in the same match.

DC/DD or the Delhi franchise finished on the bottom for four seasons, the most by any team.

There is no fixed number of points that the teams need to achieve. In order to qualify, the team needs to be in the top four of the standings.

The NRR comes into picture in case of disputes over the same number of points at the the time of qualification.

The NRR is calculated as the difference between “the runs scored in the overs faced” to “the runs conceded by the team in the overs bowled” in the same match.
