MS Dhoni is widely regarded as the greatest captain in Indian history. MS Dhoni led the Indian team to victory in three ICC tournaments: the T20 World Cup, the ODI World Cup, and the Champions Trophy. He is the only captain in the world to win three ICC trophies in white-ball cricket.

MS Dhoni made his international debut for India in the 2004 ODI match against Bangladesh. However, his debut did not go well, as he was dismissed for a duck. He came into the limelight when he scored 148 in an ODI against Pakistan in his fifth international match at Visakhapatnam.

The Jharkhand-born cricketer took charge of the young Indian team for the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup. The wicketkeeper batter led the Indian team to the title with young players. He was appointed as the captain of the Indian national cricket team in the ODI format in 2008.

Dhoni guided the Indian cricket team to the ODI World Cup title in 2011. The title marked India's first ODI World Cup since the 1983 win under Kapil Dev's captaincy. The middle-order batter won the 'Player of the Match' award for his impressive knock against Sri Lanka in the final.

The right-handed batter led the national team to victory during the Champions Trophy 2023 in England. The victory in the rain-curtailed encounter etched Dhoni's name in history books. He also led the team to the final of the 2014 T20 World Cup, where they suffered a defeat against Sri Lanka.

The Men in Blue reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup at home. However, they failed to beat the West Indies to advance to the final match of the tournament. In January 2017, Dhoni stepped down from captaincy in ODIs and T20Is, marking the end of an era in Indian cricket history.

MS Dhoni earlier announced his retirement from Test cricket during the India tour of Australia in 2014-15. He surprised the cricketing world with his decision in the middle of the series. he represented the team in 90 Test matches, scoring 4876 runs at an average of 38.09, including six centuries.

MS Dhoni was signed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the auction of the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He led the team to the final in the first season and finished as runner-up. The Chennai-based team won back-to-back titles under Dhoni's captaincy in 2010 and 2011.

Chennai Super Kings won their third title in 2008 after a two-year ban in the tournament. He guided the team to title victories in 2021 and 2023, equaling Rohit Sharma's record for most title wins as captain. He relinquished captaincy before the start of the Indian Premier League 2024 season.

He received India's highest sports honor, the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, in 2008. He was awarded the Padma Shri award in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan award in 2018. He also holds the honorary lieutenant colonel post in the Indian Territorial Army's Parachute Regiment.

MS Dhoni represented India in 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is, scoring 4876 runs, 10773 runs, and 1617 runs across three formats, respectively. He smashed 16 hundreds and 108 half-centuries in his illustrious international career, with a best score of 224 against Australia in 2013.

Bollywood hero Sushant Singh Rajput played a lead actor role in MS Dhoni's biopic “Dhoni: The Untold Story," which was directed by Neeraj Pandey. The movie was released on September 30, 2016, and became a box-office success. The film collected more than Rs 400 crore worldwide.

The Jharkhand-born cricketer married Sakshi Singh Rawat on July 4, 2010, in Dehradun, in the presence of limited guests. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Ziva Dhoni, on February 6, 2015. Dhoni is very fond of bikes and cars and has quite an automobile collection at his house in Ranchi.
