The Pakistan National Cricket Team represents Pakistan in men’s international cricket. The Pakistan cricket team is also known as the Men in Green. They are governed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The Pakistan Cricket Team is a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and plays all the three formats. One of the major cricketing nations, Pakistan have won one ODI World Cup and one T20 World Cup so far.

Pakistan National Cricket Team History:

  • The first-ever international cricket match in current-day Pakistan took place in Karachi on November 22, 1935. The match was played between Sindh and the Australian team.
  • Five years after gaining independence, Pakistan received Test match status on July 28, 1952, at the Imperial Cricket Conference. Abdul Hafeez Kardar became the first captain of the Pakistan national cricket team.
  • Pakistan played their first Test against India in October 1952. The first home Test match against India was played in January 1955 in Dacca, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).
  • Pakistan won their first-ever ODI World Cup in 1992 under the captaincy of Imran Khan. They have not won the World Cup since. 

Pakistan National Cricket Team ICC World Cup record:

Pakistan has appeared in all the 13 editions of the World Cup so far. After the group stage exit in the inaugural edition, they qualified for the semifinal in the next three editions before winning the fifth edition. Since then, they have not won the World Cup and have appeared in the final just once.

Pakistan National Cricket Team ICC T20 World Cup record:

Pakistan finished runners-up in the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 before winning the second edition in 2009. They made it to the semifinals of the next two editions as well but failed to do so in 2014 and 2016. In 2021, they made it to the semifinal before finishing runners-up in 2022.
