In a new addition to the list of bizarre interruptions in the game of cricket, the game between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians had to be temporarily halted due to a kite. The incident took place on Saturday (April 27) as both teams locked horns in the 43rd game of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024).

The game was halted in the very first over of Mumbai Indians' innings when Rohit Sharma was facing Lizaad Williams. The incident took place after the third delivery. As Rohit Sharma was getting ready to take strike, he noticed the kite coming towards him. The former Mumbai Indians skipper started walking away from the crease before the kite fell just in front of him.

Rohit Sharma quickly picked up the kite from the ground before handing it to DC captain Rishabh Pant. The wicketkeeper-batsman was then hilariously seen flying the kite for a few seconds before handing it to the square-leg umpire.

Talking about the ongoing game, Mumbai Indians were on 45 for 2 in the fifth over at the time of writing this report. The five-time champions have lost the wickets of both their openers inside the powerplay. Khaleel Ahmed gave DC the first breakthrough by dismissing Rohit Sharma for eight before Mukesh Kumar dismissed Ishan Kishan for 20.

The onus will now be on Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma to steady the ship and bat Mumbai Indians to a strong position.

Earlier in the game, DC posted a huge total of 257/4 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Opening batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk starred with the bat for the hosts, scoring his second 15-ball fifty this season to give DC a flying start. He eventually scored 84 runs off 27 balls with the help of 11 fours and six sixes.
