South Africa’s batting mainstay and former captain, Faf du Plessis is eager to step on the field and improve his record in Asia when South Africa take on Pakistan in Pakistan after 14 years. The first of the two-match Test series commences on 26th January in Karachi.

Faf du Plessis averages a mediocre 22 in Asia which is a little more than half his career average of 41. The right-hander, in 15 Tests, on the dry tracks in Asia doesn’t have a single hundred – he has 10 elsewhere – and will look to better his numbers in the upcoming series.

Du Plessis is coming off an impressive 2020 – not long ago he recorded his career-best score of 199 in the Boxing Day Test against Sri Lanka. The Pretoria-born emphasizes on doing well away from home.

As quoted by ESPNcricinfo, Faf du Plessis said, “I am intentional in making sure I really enjoy my cricket. If that comes through in performances or the way that I speak, then I am glad that it is happening. I am batting well at the moment, feeling good and I really want to play my best cricket. I also want to put in some good performances in the subcontinent. It is really important for me to do well overseas.”

The 36-year-old opines that the hosts are bolstered by the return of their captain, Babar Azam, who missed the New Zealand Test series due to a thumb injury. Du Plessis also considers Babar, at the moment, as one of the top three batters in the world across formats. The Lahore-born batsman has been in thunderous form in the last couple of years – he is in the top ten ICC batsman ranking in all three formats.

“Having Babar back is massive for them. I would say he is up there with the top three batters in the world at the moment. His last two seasons, in all formats, have been nothing short of remarkable,” he added.
