Former England spinner Monty Panesar has predicted that Team India could register a 5-0 series triumph over Joe Root’s side when they face off in August-September.

Monty Panesar statement comes from his belief that the pitches in August will be dry and hence provide turn for the Indian spinners to thrash the host batters, as they did in the last series in India a few months ago.

India defeated England at home by a 3-1 scoreline making a comeback after losing the first Test. While R Ashwin continued his dominance in the subcontinent, Axar Patel, in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja, rose to the Test arena as well.

Before the India series, England will host New Zealand for a 2-Test series in June, prior to the WTC final. Monty Panesar reckons while the pitches versus the Kiwis would be green and favor the seamers, against India it would be the spinners who would be more crucial in deciding the fate of the series.

“If the wickets turn in August every chance[ for India to win 5-0]. 5 test matches are in August where we will expect warmer conditions. Indian spinners will come into the game, India have a chance 5-0,” Monty Panesar tweeted.

“I expect green pitches v NZ and we can see the depth of English cricket. In August I expect drier wickets. IMO it favours India.”

India have seamers to exploit inexperience English batting: Monty Panesar

The 39-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator opines that India have the pace bowlers to dominate the fairly inexperienced England batting line-up, which will once again revolve around Joe Root and Ben Stokes. He feels that England’s batting could be the reason for their downfall this summer.

“India have seamers to exploit inexperience English batting. The top order will be England’s issue,” Monty Panersar stated.

The Indian contingent has commenced their quarantine in Mumbai before flying on June 2. The WTC final is slated for June 18th in Southampton; the 5-Test series versus England begins on August 4 in Nottingham and will conclude on September 14 in Manchester.
