The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) recently revealed the potential hosts of the upcoming Asia Cup editions. The Asian Cricket Council confirmed that the upcoming tournaments will be held outside India and Pakistan to avoid the controversy that happened in the last edition of the Asia Cup.

The Asian Cricket Council is planning to initiate the bidding process for Asia Cup media rights within a month. They have consulted with Indian broadcasting companies for advice on this matter. The Asian Council is likely to complete the process of tendering for media rights by July.

ACC Contemplating Offering Four-Year And Eight-Year Contracts

As per a Cricbuzz report, the ACC is contemplating offering four-year and eight-year contracts. However, the broadcasters are favoring the longer-term deal. The tender will cover four Asia Cup tournaments, comprising two 50-over tournaments and two Twenty20 competitions.

The report further stated that the ACC intends to stipulate in the tender that Asia Cup events will be held exclusively at venues outside of India and Pakistan. The decision from the ACC is to avoid any potential controversies about India and Pakistan refusing to travel to each other's countries.

The last Asia Cup was held in a hybrid model, despite Pakistan having the hosting rights. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to travel to Pakistan. India played their group stage matches in Sri Lanka, where knockout matches, including the final clash, were also played.

Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the UAE, and Oman have emerged as potential hosts for future tournaments. Sri Lanka is among the potential hosts, despite hosting a few matches in the previous tournament.

The previous media rights deal was approximately $80 million for the four editions of the Asia Cup. The ACC hopes for a higher deal for the upcoming season, considering the possibility of two to three matches between India and Pakistan in each edition. India-Pakistan will attract audiences around the world.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Congratulates Team India

The ACC organized the inaugural edition of the Asia Cup in 1984 in the United Arab Emirates, featuring India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The Indian team, led by Sunil Gavaskar, won both matches of the series and secured the title.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah recently congratulated India for their victory in the 1984 Asia Cup. He mentioned the player's contribution to India's success against archrival Pakistan.

“On this day in 1984, Team India won the inaugural edition of the Asia Cup, propelled by Surinder Khanna’s pivotal 56 against Pakistan. Ravi Shastri’s exceptional left-arm spin and Roger Binny’s impeccable seam bowling further solidified Team India’s success – as the duo emerged as the tournament’s joint-highest wicket-takers,“ Jay Shah wrote on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

India and Pakistan advanced to the final of the tournament after defeating Sri Lanka in the group stage. India successfully defended a target of 189 runs with Ravi Shastri and Roger Binny's notable performances, ultimately defeating Pakistan by 54 runs in the final.
