Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians suffered another defeat in the ongoing IPL 2024 as Lucknow Super Giants thrashed them by four wickets on Tuesday (April 30).

The defeat was MI's seventh of the season in ten games and their chances of making it to the playoffs are extremely bleak now even if they go on to win their remaining four league games. At present, they are languishing at the ninth spot in the IPL 2024 points table with just three wins and seven defeats.

Match review in short:

Asked to bat first, the five-time champions were off to a disaster start as they lost four wickets for just 27 runs inside the powerplay. The likes of Rohit Sharma (4), Suryakumar Yadav (10), Tilak Varma (7) and Hardik Pandya (0) failed to get going with the bat.

The likes of Ishan Kishan (32), Nehal Wadhera (46) and Tim David (35*) then helped the Mumbai-based outfit post a respectable although modest total of 144 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, LSG chased down the total in 19.2 overs.

After Marcus Stoinis' 62-run knock laid the foundation for the chase, LSG did stutter towards the end but Nicholas Pooran stood firm at one end and took his team home comfortably in the end.

Hardik Pandya heavily fined:

After the defeat, Hardik Pandya was also slapped with a heavy fine for his team's slow over-rate offence. In a statement, the IPL confirmed that the MI skipper has been fined a whopping Rs 24 lakh for his team's failure to complete the overs in the allotted time. This is the second time Hardik Pandya has been fined for slow over-rate in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Earlier this season, he was fined Rs 12 lakh for his team's slow over-rate offence against Punjab Kings. Apart from the captain, the other members of the playing eleven including the impact player were fined too. Each player received a fine of either Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their individual match fees, whichever is lower.

"Mr Hardik Pandya, Captain, Mumbai Indians has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 48 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on April 30, 2024," the IPL statement read.

"As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 24 Lac. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 Lac or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," it added.

MI will be in action next on Friday (May 3) when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium.
