Gautam Gambhir was all pumped up after KKR all-rounder Andre Russell picked the wicket of LSG's Nicholas Pooran during the 12th over of the match.

The Kolkata Knight Riders had traveled to the Ekana stadium to take on Gautam Gambhir's former franchise Lucknow Super Giants last night. This was the reverse fixture between the two teams and on both occasions, KKR remained on the winning side of things in a one-sided manner. The win also helped the Knight Riders replace Rajasthan Royals on top of the points table.

Gautam Gambhir sends message to Shreyas Iyer right after Nicholas Pooran's wicket

Gautam Gambhir is the true personification of a coach who is not satisfied with his team regardless of how well the players play. He rarely smiles during the games as he likes to keep himself intense and aggressive during matches from the dugout. It was evident during his time with LSG as the mentor and the case is similar in IPL 2024 as well.

Last night while he was sitting at the dugout with head coach Chandrakant Pandit, Gautam Gambhir was in full animated mode. In the second ball of the 12th over after Russell sent his countryman Pooran back to the pavilion, the former India opener was truly pumped up.

Gautam Gambhir was seen clapping and uttering "Yes" after Pooran's dismissal. Gambhir knew what Pooran is capable of as the duo had worked together at the LSG camp in 2022 and 2023. And right after the wicket, the 2011 Cricket World Cup winner sent a message to skipper Shreyas Iyer through the 12th man, as to what needs to be done after that wicket.

In the next frame, Gautam Gambhir was seen instructing something to Iyer and other KKR players on the field who had gathered around in the middle. Pooran was LSG's 5th wicket at the score of 101 and by the next 4 overs, the hosts were all out for 137.

This speaks volumes about the kind of influence that Gautam Gambhir has on the Knight Riders. It is not a case of 1 or 2 seasons but the bond between Gambhir and KKR is going to be eternal regardless of whether the franchise wins the IPL this season or not.

In the last two seasons, the Knight Riders had an almost similar unit to what they have this season except for a few incomings like Mitchell Starc and Phil Salt. Yet, the 2-time champions had finished 7th across the 2022 and 2023 seasons but this year it seems as if they will finish the league stages at the top of the table. And a lot of it is because of Gautam Gambhir.

KKR to take on MI up next

The Kolkata Knight Riders will now take on 10th placed Mumbai Indians in a reverse fixture which the Purple and gold army won in their previous meeting. KKR will welcome MI at the Eden Gardens and it will be Shreyas Iyer's team's final home game of the season.
