Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has provided insight into his fitness regime, while also stating that he does not like to brag about it on social media. The 33-year-old has received praise from all over for his sensational performances during the 2023 World Cup.

At the beginning of the tournament, he did not have a place in India’s playing eleven. He warmed the bench during the first four games and only got the opportunity to play when an unfortunate injury ruled Hardik Pandya out of the competition. And the star pacer grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

In his comeback game, he picked up a five-wicket haul against New Zealand in Dharamsala and did not look back. He went on to finish the World Cup as the highest wicket-taker despite not playing the first four games. In just 7 games, Mohammed Shami picked up a staggering 24 wickets including three five-wicket hauls. Even in the final, he struck on his first ball to remove the dangerous David Warner but could not inspire India to another win.

Mohammed Shami on his fitness:

The demand for modern-day cricket has made it absolutely mandatory for cricketers to maintain peak fitness levels. And Mohammed Shami has revealed just how hard he works in the gym in order to remain fit. The fast bowler has revealed that no other cricketer lifts heavier weights than him in the gym. He also revealed that he can do leg presses with a staggering 750 kgs.

“No other cricketer lifts heavier weights than me in the gym. I don’t like to post on social media so people don’t know. I can do a 750 kgs leg press,” Mohammed Shami told Aaj Tak.

Earlier, the pacer’s childhood coach, Badruddin Siddiqui had talked about his fitness journey. In a TV interview, he revealed how hard work Mohammed Shami worked in his farmhouse to improve his fitness.

“The Shami you’re seeing now is a new product. Gym toh sablog karte hai but Shami didn’t do that. He followed a desi fitness training to get back into shape and therein has continued the regime.

“He has been running religiously in his own farm house in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. He has made a ground in his farm house and whenever he is there, it has been his routine to run barefoot,” he had said.
