Pakistan PM Imran Khan has nominated former captain Ramiz Raja and Asad Ali for the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Board of Governors (BoG). Asad Ali is a chartered accountant by profession.

The notification for the same for issued by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) under Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, who’s also the Patron-in-Chief of the PCB. Asad was earlier nominated by Ehsan Mani, the outgoing chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and has been offered a three-year term in the Board of Governors (BoG) for one more time.

Ehsan Mani, on the other hand, resigned from his post of the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman after completion of his three-year tenure. He was offered an extension of his contract for three more years but refused to accept. Mani was elected as chairman in 2018 unopposed.

As per reports in Cricket Pakistan, a few government officials weren’t happy with the national team’s performance on the tour of England. While Pakistan faced a 0-3 whitewash in the ODI series, they could only win a solitary T20I in Nottingham out of three matches. This led to Mani informing PM Imran Khan, who won the 1992 World Cup for Pakistan as captain, of his decision to step down.

On Monday, August 23, Raja had an interaction with Imran Khan regarding taking Pakistan cricket forward. Raja had also served as PCB’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) between 2003 and 2004.

“I have given him (Imran Khan) my plans. He will make a call. The aim is to reset Pakistan crickets GPS and will be in pursuit of excellence. Pakistan cricket needs a new direction as our rankings in all three formats indicate our cricket is not improving as the prime minister wanted,” Raja was quoted by Cricbuzz.

The decision to make Raja the next PCB chairman was made three days later and Prime Minister Imran Khan – who is also the PCB patron-in-chief, has green signaled Raja’s appointment as PCB chairman.
