Suryakumar Yadav And Prithvi Shaw Confirmed As Injury Replacements On England Tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw will be travelling to England as injury replacements. Notably, Shubman Gill, the Indian opener, sustained an injury after the World Test Championship final and was ruled out of the series.

India will take on England in a five-match Test series, the first of which will take place from August 04. The India National Cricket Team is dealing with a lot of injury blows at the moment. Fast bowler Avesh Khan was injured in the first warm-up match between County XI and Indians and the vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane, was also not in the playing XI of the warm-up game.

BCCI Confirms Suryakumar Yadav And Prithvi Shaw As Injury Replacements

On Monday, the BCCI released a press release stating, “All-rounder Washington Sundar had taken an injection on his right-hand bowling finger. However, his recovery will take longer than expected and he is not bowling-fit. He is ruled out of the remainder of the tour.”

“Fast bowler Avesh Khan suffered a blow to his left thumb on Day 1 of the warm-up game. He was taken for an X-Ray and the result confirmed a fracture. A specialist was consulted for further management of his injury. He is ruled out of India’s Tour of England,” the press release stated.

“Opening batsman Shubman Gill sustained a developing stress reaction on his left lower leg (shin) during the World Test Championship final. This was confirmed via an MRI scan. He is ruled out of the tour and has returned back to India. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has recovered from COVID-19 with two negative RT-PCR tests. He has begun his preparations for the upcoming Test series after clearance from the BCCI Medical Team,” mentioned the press release.

“Bowling coach B. Arun, Wriddhiman Saha, and Abhimanyu Easwaran have completed their self-isolation in London and have now joined Team India in Durham.”

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav as replacements,” said the press release.

Suryakumar Yadav In The Form Of His Life

Suryakuamr Yadav has been in the form of his life in the last couple of years in the domestic circuit and in the Indian Premier League. This earned him a maiden call-up in the Indian T20 team in the series against England. He also made his ODI debut for the Indian team in the recently-concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka.

He won the Man of the Series award in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. In the first T20I against Sri Lanka, he was the highest run-scorer for team India as he came up with a scintillating knock which helped the visitors win the first T20I and take a 1-0 lead in the series.
