The England Men’s selection panel, which includes Sir Andrew Strauss, head coach Chris Silverwood, and a scout, has picked a 12-man squad for the first test match against the West Indies. The notable omission was that of the fast bowler, Ollie Robinson, who has been ruled out of the first Test against West Indies.

England revealed their 12-man squad for their first test match against the West Indies on Monday (7 March), which begins on Tuesday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Joe’s Root men will have a thing to prove in this, their maiden test campaign since losing ashes by 0-4 in Australia. National Selectors have made some significant decisions, with veteran pacers James Anderson and Stuart Broad being dropped for the series.

For the first time, Durham’s Alex Lees and Yorkshire’s Matthew Fisher have been called up.

Roy Burns and Haseeb Hameed, the two underperforming openers, are also gone. Alex Lees, who has been called up to the squad for the first test, will start alongside Zak Crawley. The Durham’s leading run-scorer played well in a practice match against the president’s XI of the West Indies Cricket Board, hitting 65 and 10 in two innings.

Ollie Robinson, on the other hand, has been ruled out of the first test, which is a huge setback for England. Robinson hasn’t recovered from a back spasm he sustained in the warm-up match, according to the England Cricket Board’s press statement. Meanwhile, Mark Wood, Craig Overton, and other likely starters are on the roster.

James Anderson, Dom Bess, Sam Billings, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Haseeb Hameed, and Dawid Malan are the players from the previous ashes series who did not make the cut.
