Australia vs India 2018-19: Twitter Reacts on Wrong Decision of MS Dhoni
Updated - 12 Jan 2019, 04:26 PM
The former India skipper MS Dhoni was unfortunate to be ruled out leg before wicket by the on-field umpire. However, umpire Michael Gough thought that the ball pitched in line with the stumps and gave the dismissal in favour of the hosts. The wicketkeeper-batsman could not get to use the review as Ambati Rayudu had already chewed the solitary review when he was struck on the pads by Jhye Richardson.
However, the ball had pitched in line with the wickets and the ball was hitting the leg-stump. Thus, India lost their review early on in their batting innings. Unfortunately, Dhoni had to be the prey of some poor umpiring from Michael Gough.
On the other hand, Dhoni and Rohit Sharma rescued India out of the troubled waters. The hosts had India on the mat when they crumbling at 4-3 after losing wickets of Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Ambati Rayudu.
Meanwhile, Dhoni scored his 68th ODI fifty as he helped India in recovering. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, completed his 38th ODI half-century. Dhoni took his time in the initial phase of his innings and then looked more settled.
The onus is now on Rohit Sharma to take India over the line. He is currently batting on 86 runs and the tourists require another 127 runs from 73 balls to get over the finishing line.
Jason Behrendorff has scalped two wickets whereas Jhye Richardson also took two wickets. The hosts posted 288 runs after opting to bat first. Peter Handscomb top-scored for Australia as the right-hander scored a fluent knock of 73 runs.
Here is how Twitter reacted to MS Dhoni’s dismissal:
Spineless captain Kohli's tattu Rayudu wasted a review just like his captain and did not leave it for others like Dhoni. #INDvAUS

Ball pitched outside leg stump, but dhoni out.
India always play with scenario of a partial #White umpiring.
Won't matter really, will still win.#BlindUmpire#INDvAUS— Rehasya (@Rehasya1) January 12, 2019

#AUSvIND MS Dhoni robbed by umpiring blunder and perhaps the only overseas century for which he is bullied by the people of his own nation will never ever come. Thankyou umpires feel proud. Dhanya ho sir ji.

That ball clearly looked to be pitching outside leg. More reason why the DRS needs to be used judiciously. Bad call against @msdhoni

Absolutely.. The openers have the privilege to review.. The lower order don't.. This flawed system ain't an equal blessing for all..

@ICC what's the point of spending thousands of dollars on DRS when @msdhoni has to walk off after a wrong decision and could possibly change the result of match. Icc need to think and make better use of DRS

That pitched outside the leg-stump and MS Dhoni is unlucky to walk back as there is no review left. #AUSvsIND
