Indian National Cricket Team vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is confident that he will score a century or a double century in the third Test against Australia. The Boxing Day Test will commence from December 26 at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Meanwhile, Rahane told reporters of playing a big knock when asked about converting his starts in the series. He is sure enough to create history in the third of the four-match Test series.

“It will come, I am really sure that it will come in this match,” Ajinkya Rahane said.

Rahane confident to play big knocks

Ajinkya Rahane so far had scored two half-centuries in the series. He contributed with vital 70 runs along with veteran Cheteshwar Pujara to help Indian team past 300 plus runs in the second essay of the first Test. Rahane also scored a half-century in the first innings of the second Test match and partnered well with skipper Virat Kohli. The 30-year-old is confident that he will continue his excellent show at MCG and will convert his good scores into big ones.

“The way I am batting, with the mindset of counter-attack, definitely (I will score) a 100 or maybe 200. But it is important for me to not think about the milestones. I want to continue the way I am batting, and if I can read the situation and play accordingly,  that will be good for the team,” he added.

Moreover, it has been well over a year since Rahane reached the triple-figure mark in Tests. His last century came against Sri Lanka in August 2017 in Colombo. Since then, he has played 25 innings, managing a score of 50 plus only five times. However, in the series against Australia, he has looked to counterattack the Australian quicks. Meanwhile, the right-hander says it has been his own decision to play that way.

“It is my own decision to counterattack. The way I was visualising (in the first two Tests), I was just thinking about the kind of shots to play on the particular track. I think you have to take the risk and be brave to take the call. It can go either but as a batsman, it is your responsibility, and it is your decision to make that happen,” Ajinkya Rahae further added.

However, Rahane played his last Boxing Day Test match in Australia in 2014. The right-hander had scored 147 and 48 and is keen to repeat the similar performance after four years.
