India’s debutant Mayank Agarwal created a new record while playing on the opening day of the Boxing Day Test. Agarwal became the highest Indian run-scorer while playing in Australia on his Test debut. The Karnataka right-hander went past the record of Dattu Phadkar who had scored 51 on his debut in Australia in 1947.

Meanwhile, Hrishikesh Kanitkar scored 45 runs whereas Abid Ali had scored 33 runs on Australia soil while making their debut. Mayank Agarwal batted with confidence on his Test debut. There must have been some jitters for the Karnataka batsman. However, there were no signs of nervousness as he batted at the top of his game.

Well began is half job done.

Agarwal oozed the right technique and showed that he belonged to the International level. The right-hander made 76 runs in his first innings in which he scored eight boundaries and one six in his knock.

Furthermore, Mayank Agarwal was knocking hard at the selection doors as he was scoring his runs consistently. Agarwal had scored a truckload of runs in the domestic circuit while playing for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy. He had also amassed runs while playing for India A. Thus, Agarwal was waiting in the wings for a long time and finally got his well-deserved chance.

Subsequently, he was able to grab his chance with both hands as he brought his A-game to the table. Meanwhile, India is currently batting at 165-2 with Virat Kohli at 28 and Cheteshwar Pujara at 45 runs.

Both of them are looking solid and will look to take India to a gargantuan total in the first innings. On the other hand, Pat Cummins has been the pick of the Australian bowlers as he has bowled with fire and has scalped two wickets.
