The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has paid an amount of Rs 1,04,24,507 to Gautam Gambhir as a share of gross revenue 2011-12, 2012-13 & 2014-15 for the tournaments played outside India.

Gambhir’s international career is completely off the track at the moment. His last appearance for India came against England in Rajkot, the first one of the five-Test series in the year 2016. Gambhir had got the call after KL Rahul suffered an injury in the first Test of the home season against New Zealand.

The southpaw had warmed the bench in Kolkata Test and got the chance only after Shikhar Dhawan got injured. Gambhir played the Indore Test and scored 7o. However, his comeback lasted just two Tests as he was dropped from the team after failing to impress.

Gambhir, however, did well in the last domestic season. He scored 683 runs in Ranji Trophy 2017/18 to emerge out as the sixth highest run-scorer in the tournament. But it was not enough for him to earn an India recall or make it to the any of the squads for this year’s Duleep Trophy.

What further hurt his chances was his poor form in this year’s Indian Premier League. Gambhir sensationally stepped down as Delhi Daredevils’ skipper after his side’s dismal start to the season. Under his captaincy, the Daredevils managed a solitary win in six games. Another reason behind Gambhir’s decision to step down was his poor returns with the bat. He started the season on a brilliant note, scoring 55 against Kings XI Punjab.

However, his performance dipped after that. In the next four innings, he was dismissed for single-digit score thrice. Overall, he managed to score only 85 runs in five innings despite scoring a fifty in the very first game for his old-franchise.

The recent years have not at all done justice to the promise Gambhir had shown not very long ago. Gambhir was one of the most sought after players in the world in the second half of the last decade. He was an integral part of the team across all the three formats and was also one of the batting mainstays. Gambhir was the top-scorer when India beat Pakistan in the final of the inaugural World T20. The southpaw was looking destined to create his own legacy in the game. His reputation was further enhanced after his starring performance in the 2011 World Cup.

However, his form dipped soon and he found himself out of the team. But that doesn’t undermine his immense contribution to the country and the hefty amount paid by the BCCI pretty much tells how important the southpaw was.

The BCCI also paid an amount of Rs 40,50,000 to Rahul Dravid as a professional fee for the month of June. The former Indian skipper is the head coach of India A and U-19 team.  India’s Test-specialist Cheteshwar Pujara was also paid an amount of Rs 27,00,000 as 10% retainers fee for the period October 2017 to March 2018.
