Team India fast bowler Mohammed Shami will sigh a big relief after District Court on September 9 (Monday) put a stay order on the arrest warrant issued to him by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM). Notably, Shami’s estranged wife Hasin Jahan had accused the cricketer of sexual harassment and domestic violence.

The ACJM issued the warrant on September when Shami was in West Indies with his national commitments. Mohammed Shami was a part of the ODI and Test squad which inflicted a whitewash on the Caribbeans.

Mohammed Shami had challenged the ACJM order in the District and Sessions Court. And as a result, District and Sessions Judge Rai Chattopadhyay stayed the warrant issued against the cricketer. Shami’s lawyer Sheikh Salim Rahaman said that they pleaded before Judge Chattopadhyay that after the filing of chargesheet in a case, the magistrate has to issue summons against the accused.

“It was a warrant more procedural in nature,” Rahaman said to AFP. “The case was listed for further hearing on November 2.” he added.

Mohammed Shami has been in a legal battle with his estranged wife Hasin Jahan since 2018. Jahan accused the fast bowler of domestic violence and sexual harassments. Shami has clearly denied all the allegations saying that it is done to defame his character.

The right-arm medium pacer will be available for the upcoming Test series against South Africa. It will be interesting to see if BCCI keeps Shami in the squad or not.
