England national cricket team created history after they lifted their maiden ODI World Cup trophy at their backyard by beating New Zealand in the super over based on boundary count. Following the impressive performance, they drew to rivals Australia at home in the Ashes series earlier this year with both the teams winning 2 games each including a draw in the five-match series.

The England crew then flew to New Zealand to play a five-match T20I series and two-match Test series. Though they won the T20I series by 3-2, their performance was far from pleasing in the Test series. They lost the opening fixture by an innings and 65 runs and the second match ended in a draw. England are ranked fifth in the ICC Test Championship points table with 56 points. Playing 5 matches, they have registered two wins, two defeats and 1 draw.

While England are finding ways to get back on track, the former England skipper Michael Vaughan believes England don’t stand a chance to beat Australia in the upcoming Ashes series. Vaughan, who was pretty much impressed by the quality of Australia’s pace bowling attack against Pakistan added that England has a lot of catching up to do to challenge Australia.

Australia produced an all-round performance in the two-match series against Pakistan. Tim Paine-led side bore fruit as they completed a 2-0 clean sweep over the visitors. Australia won the first Test by an innings and 5 runs before following it up with one more victory by an innings and 48 runs in the second Test at the Adelaide Oval. While David Warner was the star performer with the bat, notching up his maiden triple century, the pace trio comprising Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood bagged 32 wickets among them in the series.

England have got no chance to beat Australia: Michael Vaughan

Talking about England’s chances against Australia in next Ashes and the ongoing World Test Championship, Michael Vaughan added: “At this stage, I don’t think England have got a chance in two years’ time unless they suddenly find one or two high-class bowlers from somewhere, and a high-class spinner,” Vaughan told Fox Cricket.

Vaughan thinks England don’t have the required weapons to challenge Australia in Australian conditions. I know we’re two years away but I don’t think England have got the tools to beat Australia in Australian conditions – particularly this Australian team. I was here last year when they played a quality India team and they lost, but you could feel there was still a little bit of rawness and obviously there was no David Warner and Steve Smith,” the former England captain signed off.
