Sam Curran scored his second fifty of the series, scoring 78 to help England recover from 86 for 6 and post a respectable 246 in the fourth England vs India Test.

England started the proceedings on a dismal note after Joe Root decided to bat first on a lively pitch. And the Indian pacers did not take long to prove Root’s decision wrong.

Jasprit Bumrah drew the first blood by dismissing Keaton Jennings for a four-ball duck. Bumrah and Ishant then shifted the spotlight onto Root’s poor series during the English skipper’s painful short stay at the crease that lasted just 14 deliveries. The under-pressure skipper had already survived a leg before reprieve in the fifth over, thanks  to Bumrah’s overstepping.

Root was completely plumb but was saved by the no-ball after India reviewed the on-field umpire’s initial not-out verdict.
However, Root faile to capitalise on the reprieve and fell to a big inswinger from Ishant, thus departing after scoring just 4.

Jonny Bairstow and Alastair Cook also failed to do much as England found themselves reeling at 36 for 4.

The decision to send Bairstow at number four backfired.  Selected in the team just as a batsman, Bairstow could score only 6 before edging a Bumrah delivery behind the stumps. 8 runs later, Cook fell to Hardik Pandya after scoring 17 off 55.

Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes then took the score past the 50-run mark and ensured England head to lunch without suffering any further setback. The duo, however, fell quickly after lunch. As a result, England found themselves reeling at 86 for 6. At that stage, the 150-mark was looking a distant dream. However, Moeen Ali and Sam Curran steadied the ship and added 81 runs to give some respectability to the total.

But India soon struck back and dismissed Ali and Adil Rashid in quick succession to reduce the hosts to 177 for 8. But Curran continued to frustrate the visitors, scoring his second fifty of the series to take the score past the 200-run mark. He was ably supported by Stuart Broad. The duo added 63 runs before India dismissed both of them in quick time to wrap up the innings. Curran top-scored for the hosts with 78.
