Former Pakistan batsman Akhtar Sarfraz Breathes his Last Aged 43

Former Pakistan batsman Akhtar Sarfraz has breathed his last at the age of 43 after fighting with colon cancer. Akhtar who played four ODIs for Pakistan passed away at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial cancer hospital, built by the former skipper and current Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Although Akhtar Sarfraz’s international career spanned for only one year, the left-handed batsman has played 118 first-class games over 13 years scoring 5720 runs at an average of 36.43. Akhtar also has 13 centuries, and 33 half-centuries to his name and his last match was in 2007 for Peshawar in Quad-e-Azam Trophy. Besides, he has also amassed 2636 runs in 98 List A games – which spanned over a decade.

Meanwhile, after his retirement from cricket. Sarfraz Akhtar has served as a regional coach and then worked as a selector for the Pakistan women’s side between 2018 and 2019. PCB chairman Ehsan Mani offered his tribute to the cricketer saying that it a massive shock for the whole nation. Mani also said that it is a massive loss for the cricketing fraternity and extended condolences with his family. He also said that PCB will stand by them in these difficult times.

“The PCB is shocked to hear the sad news of Akhtar’s passing. It is very difficult to accept and comprehend if you lose someone from the cricket fraternity, particularly as young and lively as Akhtar who was admired, respected and loved by everyone,” Mani said.

“It’s tragic that death cut short his life at such a young age, but he will live in our memories for a very long period. On behalf of the PCB, I want to extend my deepest condolences to Akhtar’s family and assure them that in these difficult times, we stand firmly with them,” he added.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister and World Cup-winning skipper Imran Khan also extended his solidarity to Akhtar Sarfraz’s family.
