Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has questioned India’s team management on the selection of a couple of players after a humiliating Test series defeat at the hands of New Zealand.
Team India lost its first Test series on Monday since the inception of the ICC World Test Championship. Collectively, the Men in Blue failed, but there were certain players whose individual performances stooped to a new low during the series.
India’s lost the ODI and Test series:
India began the New Zealand tour on a high. The visitors clean swept the hosts 5-0 in T20 series becoming the first team to do so in the history of the format. India was on the road to another ODI series win.
However, the BlackCaps turned the tables and avenged their defeat in style as they clean swept the Men in Blue in the ODIs by 3-0.
Until the series, India were riding on the back of seven consecutive limited-overs series wins since the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
The Tests were set to be the tour decider.
However, India’s batting order failed miserably in front of the Kiwi bowlers and had a poor display on show during the series. This led to India losing its first Test match and first Test series since the World Test Championship began.
Now, questions are being raised over team India’s management in player selection. Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan has also raised some serious questions on team Indias selection policy.
Harbhajan Singh Questions Team India’s Selection Rules:
Bhajji raised questions on Rishabh Pant’s inclusion in the team in place of Wriddhiman Saha.
Saha has been the regular choice wicketkeeper-batsman for India in the Test format for a long time now and has done well with the bat and the gloves to cement his place.
“Wriddhiman Saha was replaced by Rishabh Pant. I don’t know why Saha was thrown out. Pant’s form was also poor. Nor did he score in practice, who thought he could do well? “ the Turbonator added.
.
Bhajji was also critical of Ajinkya Rahane. Bhajji mentioned that Rahane showed a very poor technique in handling the short balls and he has now exposed himself and his weakness in front of the world.
Harbhajan wasn’t very impressed with Ravi Shastri’s statement wherein the Indian coach said that India’s performance has considerably improved in foreign conditions now.
The veteran off-spinner Harbhajan said that the records do not match with Shastri’s claims and the only thing that has improved in foreign tours is earlier India travelled in economy class and now they travel in business class.
