India’s star in the making Shubman Gill harbours a dream to be the part of the team’s World Cup squad. Gill has received his maiden call-up for the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand. Vijay Shankar and Shubman Gill were added to India’s squad after Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul were suspended.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has been knocking hard at the selection doors. He had recently scored a brilliant 268 while playing for his state team Punjab while playing against Tamil Nadu. Gill believes if he can grab his chance in the series against the Kiwis, he would be in contention to make the cut into the team for the World Cup squad.

Gill is the future of Indian Cricket.

On the other hand, Gill has shown the promise to be the future of Indian cricket. In fact, the writing was always on the wall as Gill was making the right noises in the domestic circuit.

“Of course, I dream to be part of India’s World Cup squad. If I can get an opportunity in New Zealand and grab that chance, I’ll have a good shot at selection for the team to England,” Shubman Gill said while talking to CricketNext.

Gill also revealed the excitement when he got to know the news of his selection. The young batsman said he rushed to his Mom and Dad’s room to tell them the good news.

“It was late in the night and I had almost fallen asleep. Then messages from friends and reporters started coming in that I had been selected for the Indian team. I rushed into my parent’s bedroom to inform them. They had fallen asleep but mom was immediately up and hugged me,” Gill said.

Gill will like to grab his chances.

Shubman Gill is in top form in the recent time. The 19-year old batsman has scored 790 runs for Punjab in the ongoing Ranji Trophy at a staggering average of 98.75. Gill believes it is good to be selected when he is playing at the top of his game.

“It’s always good to be selected when you are in form. I am timing the ball well and just feeling full of confidence in the middle at the moment,” Gill said.

In fact, Shubman Gill was part of India A squad that had recently toured New Zealand. Thus, the prodigy batsman can make most of his experience of playing in New Zealand conditions. Gill also gave credit to his India A and Under-19 coach Rahul Dravid.

“I am preparing myself to bat in the middle-order for India. The pitches in New Zealand have assistance for the paceman, so the defence needs to be tight early in the innings. Rahul sir’s (Dravid) knowledge of batting on such wickets was very helpful when I toured there,” the youngster said.

Shubman Gill has ticked the right boxes in his young career. The youngster will like to grab his opportunity with both hands if he is presented with a chance in the playing XI.
