ICC World Cup 2019: Rohit Sharma Achieves Massive Milestone With His Century At Edgbaston

India opener Rohit Sharma continued his brilliant for to score his third century of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Earlier, England had posted 338 runs with a solid start from Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow before a carnage from Ben Stokes to finish things on a high.

Chasing a massive total, India got off to the worst start possible losing KL Rahul early. England took the opportunity to hit the right areas but Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma took time to settle in and focused mainly on ones and twos. Rohit looked completely out of touch as he failed to time the ball. Kohli, on the other hand, looked solid and brought his fifth consecutive half-century. The Mumbai cricketer finally got into the grooves as the boundaries started coming.

Although Kohli got out, Rohit Sharma continued to bring on the singles while the boundaries kept coming. In the process, he brought his third hundred in this World Cup. He scored his first century in their opener against South Africa while the second came against the arch-rivals Pakistan. With this, he touched former India skipper Sourav Ganguly record of three hundred in the 2003 World Cup. Rohit became the only second Indian after Ganguly to achieve this feat.

Previously, Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow‘s 160-run partnership helped England propelled to 300+ score. Although India made a comeback banking a five-wicket haul from Mohammed Shami but Ben Stokes played a blinder to take the score to a mammoth total. Stokes’ 54-ball 79-run knock before an outstanding century from Jonny Bairstow. They absolutely murdered the Indian spinners taking 160 runs from their 20 overs to make things tough for India during the chase.
