ICC World Cup 2019: Rohit Sharma Joins Virat Kohli After Another Swashbuckling Century

India National Cricket Team have got off to a flier after asked to bat first against Pakistan in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 at Old Trafford in Manchester. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul got off to a flying start while skipper Virat Kohli dominated the middle overs before rain played a spoilsport. Meanwhile, Rohit who registered his second century in this World Cup entered an elite club alongside Kohli.

Rohit-Rahul gets going in style

Rohit Sharma came out to bat with a new opening partner in KL Rahul with Shikhar Dhawan ruled out with a thumb injury. However, it didn’t take any toll, and they staged a 136-run partnership toying with the Pakistan bowling attack. While Rahul was a bit cautious, Rohit was fluent considering that he came to the game on the back of a century and a fifty. The Mumbai batsman soon reached his fifty and marched for the big score.

KL Rahul didn’t lag too as he reached his first World Cup fifty as well. But it was Rohit Sharma who looked in complete control of things before Pakistan finally got a breakthrough dismissing Rahul for 57 runs. The wicket brought Virat Kohli in the middle who is also in fine form with the bat. They rotated the strike while the odd boundaries kept coming as the India vice-captain reached his second hundred in this World Cup in style.

Rohit creates milestone

Meanwhile, with this century, Rohit Sharma became just the second Indian to hit a century against arch-rivals Pakistan in a World Cup match. Virat Kohli was the first Indian to score a century in a World Cup game against Pakistan during the 2015 World Cup in Australia. He overtook Sachin Tendulkar’s 98 in the 2003 edition of the World Cup.

Although Rohit Sharma got out in a cheeky fashion at the score of 140, Virat Kohli dominated the show to keep the scoreboard ticking before rain stopped play. India were at 305 for four in 46.4 overs before Kohli and Vijay Shankar walked back to let the groundsmen bring in the covers.
