After affecting the series-opener in Chennai, rain is looking set to take take a toll on the upcoming second One-Day International too, scheduled to be played on Thursday (September 21) at the Eden Gardens. Kolkata’s Met department has not ruled out the possibility of intermittent showers, especially in the evening hours and with Thursday’s weather prediction showing chances of rain, the fans might see another curtailed game or no game at all if there is heavy rain.

Both the teams have been deprived of any outdoor practise session prior to the crucial second game.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Met director Ganesh Das is hopeful that rain will not be too heavy during the upcoming clash.

“By September 21, the circulation will be gone but in this month rain is a possibility especially in the evening. It may not, however, continue for too long,” said Das.

On the other hand, Cricket Association of Bengal pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee has assured that the ground is in perfect condition to hold the match.

“The pitch and ground conditions is just perfect. It’s an ideal condition what’s required for a One-Day International contest but I cannot say whether it will rain or not. Who would have thought India will score 281/7 from being five down for 87 in the 22nd over. I cannot say they will make how many runs but the wicket will help both batsmen and bowlers” Mukherjee said.

“We are equipped to cover the entire ground and there is enough machinery to clear up even if it rains but it depends on the intensity and duration,” he added.

India is currently leading the five-match series by 1-0 after winning the first game in Chennai by 26 runs (DLS method).
