A loss is never easy to handle, no matter what the margin is. Meanwhile, New Zealand veteran batsman, Ross Taylor has admitted to finding it hard to swallow the result of the series. The India National Cricket Team recently won the third ODI at the Bay Oval, and thus clinched the five-match ODIs 3-0 with two games remaining. Taylor, who scored 93 runs in the match said such losses are hard to get off the chest, but lauded India for being the far better team.

Dominant India mats NZ in ODIs

New Zealand, on Monday, had won the toss and batted first. The failures of the openers had been the story thus far, as it repeated itself. However, rarely, Kane Williamson didn’t find some runs off his bat too. At that stage, Ross came to the rescue and paired with Tom Latham to began the recovery work. Though they both collected runs under their belt, it was Ross’ 93 which helped the hosts cross 200-mark. Meanwhile, all didn’t go well for the Kiwis, as they got out on 243.

For the visitors, it wasn’t a walk in the park, but they still managed to get past the winning line. Courtesy respective fifties from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India won the game with seven wickets in hand.

India won the key moments – Ross

Meanwhile, Taylor did point out the issues with the NZ team. He said they didn’t build any pressure, and losing the wickets at crucial junctures only hurt them. Furthermore, Ross lauded the visiting team, saying they were better across all departments and thus found results.

“It is tough to swallow 3-0 loss. But we have to give credit to the Indians. They have been far too good in all the three matches. India put us under pressure for a long period of time and got wickets at crucial times,” Taylor said.

“India are a step up in opposition. They won key moments and put us under pressure. We could not just capitalise when we were on a semi-dominant position. We were three-four wickets down and 20 overs to go and long way behind the game. We fought hard today but that was not just enough,” he added.

We have to play for pride – Taylor

Yes, India must have won the series, but Taylor feels his team still has some pride to play for. Talking of Hamilton, the venue for the fourth ODI, Ross said it is a hunting ground for the hosts; thus they would fancy their chances there. Concluding, he said, New Zealand has to be a better team in facets of the game in the remaining games.

“There are two more matches to go. Even though the series is gone there is still a lot of pride in the team. Hamilton is a good hunting ground for us as a team. We have to get on to the business and hopefully, we can bounce back in the last two matches,”

“We need to play better in all facets of the game. Hopefully, we can get back some pride back in the last two matches.”

New Zealand will now host India in the fourth ODI in Hamilton on Monday (January 31st).
