India pulled things back in style to restrict South Africa to 149 runs after the visitors got off to a flying start in the second T20I at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The Proteas scored 16 runs off the final over to post a decent total on the board.

India skipper Virat Kohli rightly decided to opt to field first after winning the toss. They went with two specialist fast bowlers while South Africa handed three debut caps. South Africa skipper Quinton de Kock, who is captaining the side for the first time, set the stage on fire right from the onset.

The southpaw struck a boundary off the first ball to announce his arrival on the crease. While Reeza Hendricks struggled to get going, de Kock made his intentions clear from the first ball. Deepak Chahar finally provided the first breakthrough getting the better of Hendricks.

The wicket brought debutant Temba Bavuma into the crease but Quinton de Kock was complete in his flow. The duo combined well to keep South Africa’s scoreboard ticking bringing 78 runs at the halfway stage. While Bavuma focused on ones and twos barring the occasional boundaries, de Kock continued to take on the India bowlers.

But a moment of brilliance from India skipper Virat Kohli brought the home side back into the game. Kohli ran towards his left from mid-off and dives to complete a one-handed catch to lead by an example. The wicket made way for another as Ravindra Jadeja removed Rassie van der Dussen to have South Africa at 90 for three.

The Indian bowlers pulled things back as they controlled the pace of the game. David Miller and Temba Bavuma failed to found the boundaries as the runs dried up. To add up, India continued to pick wickets as Deepak Chahar and Hardik Pandya used the slower balls to perfection.

South Africa finally managed to post 149 runs at the end of their full quota of 20 overs. As of now, it looks an easy target for India, who have some quality batters in their ranks.
