India’s Test win against the Windies will get remembered for the grit and determination shown by the rookies. Wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant continued his excellent form and was among runs. However, the 21-year-old missed out on scoring a hundred on two occasions, as he got dismissed on 92 in each of the two games in Rajkot and Hyderabad. Also, behind the stumps, Pant was involved in seven dismissals.

Meanwhile, the Test series turned out to be a one-sided contest as expected by many. The Windies were listless and were just fine in patches. Apart from their brilliance with the ball on the third day of the 2nd Test, Jason Holder’s side didn’t make much impact.

However, Pant was happy to make some useful contributions but was aware of the jinx in nineties. Two tons could have made a whole lot of difference, but the team management has backed the young gun to go the distance.

“I always wanted to play Test cricket, and I’ve had a good experience. The team is very helpful. Everyone is helping me to grow in every sense, and I’m taking it very well.” Pant said post the game.

The left-handed batsman also added getting to the three-figure mark is essential and that he needs to work on his game. Pant wants to keep his game simple and execute his plans.

“I need to grow a little as a cricketer and get more hundreds. The goal is to keep playing my normal game,” he added.

However, head coach, Ravi Shastri was mighty pleased with the youngster and looked to be in good spirit. He praised the new-comers on their impressive show and also expressed his opinion on Pant. With Wriddhiman Saha still nursing an injury, Pant is likely to get more games and the coach said it will all come down to current form when the think tank sits down to name the wicket-keeper for the upcoming tours.

“Pant is another name. He got his opportunity, he grabbed it, now he has consolidated it. [About Saha returning and challenging Pant] You’ve got to go on current form.” Shastri said.
