Ahead of the second T20I between India and the Windies, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to rename the Lucknow newly built stadium. The Ekana Stadium has been renamed in honour of former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The stadium will now be known as “Bharat Ratan Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium”.
In fact, this newly built stadium will be making its International debut today when India and the Windies will lock horns in the second T20I. Meanwhile, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was one of the finest Prime Ministers to lead India. The former Prime Minister died in August at the age of 93 years.
Great Gesture by Uttar Pradesh Government.
The Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik has passed the government’s proposal to give a green chit to this renaming. Meanwhile, the orders for change in the name were made by Principal Secretary (Housing) Nitin Ramesh Gokarna.
The officials of the Lucknow Development Authority confirmed the stadium will be christened after the project is completed as per the clause of 17.5.1.
Meanwhile, India will go into the newly built stadium with a 1-0 lead. The hosts were able to win the first T20I at Eden Gardens, Kolkata by five wickets. Indian bowlers were the architect of the win as they were able to restrict the visitors to a paltry score of 109 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav was the star of the show as the mystery chinaman spinner scalped three wickets. Furthermore, he gave away only 13 runs in his four overs quota.
India also could not cruise to the target as they lost early wickets. However, Dinesh Karthik batted with guile to take his team through to the finishing line. Krunal Pandya also had a good start to his T20I career as he scalped one wicket. Moreover, he made a brisk 21 run knock off just nine balls
