India vs Windies 2018: Selectors Wait For Kohli's Wrist Injury Update, Bumrah-Bhuvi Might Get Rest

The All-India selection committee is waiting for the update on Virat Kohli’s wrist injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India will announce the squad for two-Test match series on Sunday. Thus, they are waiting for the confirmation of Kohli’s fitness. Indian skipper was given rest for the recently concluded Asia Cup 2018, which India went on to win by three wickets.

Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar who had got back into the team after the back injury could get rest. Furthermore, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling partner Jasprit Bumrah can also get some time off.

Kohli is carrying a wrist niggle.

On the other hand, Prithvi Shaw is in contention to make his Test debut at Rajkot in the first Test match from 4 October. Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin will undergo a fitness test before making themselves available for the selection.

Meanwhile, a BCCI official confirmed that Virat Kohli is carrying a wrist niggle.

“Virat is carrying a wrist niggle. Tests have been done and selectors are awaiting the medical update from the National Cricket Academy’s support staff. It is not clear how he sustained the wrist injury. It could have been during the England Test matches or training sessions,” a senior BCCI office-bearer told PTI on Saturday.

Jasprit Bumrah is playing regularly after coming back from the injury. Furthermore, Bhuvneshwar Kumar should get rest before the long tour of Australia.

“Jasprit has bowled 133 overs across three Tests in England and nearly his full quota in all matches in this Dubai heat. He needs a bit of rest to be fresh for the tour of Australia. AlsoBhuvi needs to be preserved for the tour Down Under,” the official said.

Ravichandran Ashwin had suffered from a hip injury on the England tour. Ashwin was not at the top of his game in the fourth Test match against England.

“Ashwin is fit and has completely recovered from the hip injury,” he added.

The Indian selectors will announce their squad tomorrow. The first Test match against Windies will begin from 4th October at Rajkot.
