Interim Bangladesh Coach Takes a Jibe at Chandika Hathurusingha

The current interim coach of Bangladesh Richard Halsall made it pretty clear that it is the players who need to score the runs and take wickets and current Sri Lanka coach and the former Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha cannot affect the outcome of the match similarly. It was an obvious jibe taken at Hathurusingha as he also made his point clear that players play a greater role in the outcome of the match and they are the ones who execute the plans of the coach.

Hathurusingha who is the current coach of Sri Lanka will have a different set of plans for his previous team, but the experienced Bangladesh team with the likes of Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan needs to take the opportunity to take the field and affect the result. It is practically not possible for a coach to score or take wickets for the team.

“Chandika is a very good coach but as we saw last night, it’s Tamim Iqbal who scores the runs and Shakib Al Hasan who takes wickets. Chandika can’t score runs or take wickets,” Halsall suggested when he was asked to comment on the Sri Lankan head coach.

The moral of the Bangladesh players have been lifted following their impressive performance against Zimbabwe in the opening ODI yesterday. Halsall said that the Bangla Tigers are smiling again which faded away after a disastrous tour of South Africa where they lost seven matches across all three formats and following that tour, Hathurusingha decided to step down from his position.

“Really pleasing to put in a performance which I think you can tell by this morning and going back to the hotel last night made everyone smile.So that’s the most pleasing thing. They are a very proud group of players and they really enjoyed playing for their country,” Halsall said.
