Unlike Kings XI Punjab’s inconsistent performances this season Andrew Tye has been showcasing remarkable consistency. The right-arm pacer, on Saturday (May 12), impressed with the ball once again against Kolkata Knight Riders.

With the Knight Riders batsmen on rampage, it was Tye’s 4-wicket haul that provided Kings XI with some respite. He provided the team with the first breakthrough by dismissing the dangerous Chris Lynn to end the 53-run opening. Tye then accounted for Sunil Narine who was going berserk with the bat before departing for 75 after scoring 36. Later in the innings, he dismissed Robin Uthappa and Andre Russell to take his tally this season to an impressive 20 wickets.

But eventually his effort went in vain as Knight Riders won the game by 31 runs after piling up a staggering 245 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Kings XI came up with a good response but the target was just too good to chase down. The hosts remained in contention for the most part of their chase but eventually finished on a commendable 214 for 8.

Speaking after the game, Tye spoke on the reason behind his brilliant performance this season. The 31-year old said that unpredictability has played a big part behind his success.

“I’m a lot more aware, trying not to be too predictable. Batsmen know I’m going to bowl slower deliveries more often than not, so I have to keep coming up with ways to get wickets,” he said at the post-match conference.

He further expressed his disappointment over the lack of support for KL Rahul and Chris Gayle from other batsmen. Against Knight Riders too, the duo started the proceedings on a stunning note but the middle-order failed to complement their effort again.

“It’s disappointing. Someone other than KL (Rahul) and Chris (Gayle) has to stand up. Aaron Finch showed glimpses of his old self (today) but we need more from him and the other batsmen. We haven’t had consistency in our batting,” he said.

Kings XI will next take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday.
