The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) went down fighting against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Holkar Stadium in Indore on Saturday (May 12) evening.

Visitors posted a massive 245 for six on the board and took the game away completely. Opener Sunil Narine blasted a 36-ball 75 while skipper Dinesh Karthik made fifty to take KKR – to their highest ever total in IPL.

But the game didn’t turn out to be too one-sided and instead the chasers put up a good fight.

In-form KL Rahul and Chris Gayle started off with a 57-run stand. Gayle departed for 21 while Rahul scored yet another fifty to carry on his good form.

Punjab fight to finish till the end:

The innings took a beating mid-way. All-rounder Andre Russell, who scored 31 with the bat, scalped three wickets with the ball to prove his all-around potential.

Aaron Finch’s 34 off 20 balls was too little too late while skipper Ravi Ashwin’s 45 off 22 balls got them to a respectable total. The Punjab side managed to score 214/8 and lost the game by just 31 runs.

It was a great opportunity for the KKR side to make up the Net Run-Rate and they would have surely expected a better performance with the ball.

But the fourth slot with 12 points in the kitty would sound good to their ears for the moment.

Preity cheers up the boys:

The Punjab franchise’s co-owner Preity Zinta lauded the effort of the boys as they kept fighting till the end.

She tweeted in support of the boys and said ‘well played’. She understood the fact that chasing a daunting total of 246 was never easy but the performance certainly won hearts.

The Punjab side will look to get back to winning ways as they have now lost two games in succession.

On the other hand, KKR would be mighty pleased with their performance with the bat.
