The biggest concern for Team India in the ongoing Indian Premier League is the players’ fitness. With the all-important World Cup set to get underway just days after the conclusion of the IPL, the Indian team-management is a worried bunch. Over the years, several players have picked up injuries while playing the IPL and unsurprisingly, the team-management and the fans are worried with the ongoing season. Last year only, Virat Kohli had suffered an injury which had ended his hopes of playing his first-ever county stint. Fortunately, he had recovered in time for the series in England.

The ongoing competition started on a worrying note for India when Jasprit Bumrah seemed to have injured his should during Mumbai Indians’ opening clash of the season against Delhi Capitals. Later, it was revealed that it was just a case of muscle spasm. But the Mumbai Indians and India have now suffered a huge blow as Rohit Sharma has now picked up an injury. The star batsman suffered the injury during Tuesday evening’s training session at the Wankhede Stadium, ahead of the IPL game against Kings XI Punjab.

After a long hit in the nets, Rohit Sharma was working out in the outfield when he was seen collapsing to the ground, clutching his right thigh.

The injury looked serious as Rohit was grimacing in pain as his teammates and the support staff rushed to his aid. Helped by team physio Nitin Patel, he picked himself up and hobbled around the boundary rope, making a slow, painful walk to the dressing room. During his walk off the field, he stopped and took a break, leaning on the electronic hoarding around the boundary for support. The signs were very concerning as his struggles made it more or less clear that the injury could be serious.

The Mumbai Indians skipper then climbed the steps on the side of the visitors’ dressing room that are closer to reach than his team’s dressing room.

The extent of the injury is not known yet but Hindustan Times have reported that it could be a hamstring problem. Depending on whether it is a strain or tear, hamstring injuries can take between two to six weeks to heal. As such, Indian team-management will not be that worried but it would be a huge blow for the Mumbai Indians.  After a slow start, Mumbai Indians are finally picking up and the injury to their skipper could hurt them dear.
