The Indian Premier League (IPL) is on the verge of smashing new records and reaching new heights with its 13th edition (IPL 2020) beginning from 29th March. But, behind the scenes, there’s a lot more involved too. The IPL is the most successful T20 league in the world. A lot of its credit goes to all the off-screen factors too.

The domestic professional league has grown year after year and is the most followed T20 league in the world. In a report by a global advisory firm, Duff & Phelps, the Indian T20 league has grown seven per cent in overall valuation and has reached $6.8 billion in 2019.

Every year, the bar just keeps on reaching new heights.

Kings XI Punjab have not been the most glorious of teams till now in the IPL. They have been one of the underperformers of the tournament.

Despite this fact, they have not shied away from spending money on big players over the past couple of seasons. In the twelve seasons so far, they have reached the top four only twice.

They always seem to start well but bottle towards the end of the league stage.

However, Kings XI Punjab have witnessed a rise in their brand value which has risen by 4% and is now $41.7 million.

7. Rajasthan Royals (RR):

Rajasthan Royals have had a poor season on and off the field by their standards. Having won the maiden IPL trophy in 2008, Royals have not had a good run in the tournament.

Instead, their performance has kept on declining and despite the big names on the team list, their brand value has not seen a major uprise.

Royals have a brand value of $43.4 million which is just 1.6% more than the previous year.

6. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB):

The Royal Challengers Bangalore is another such team which has not had their hands on silverware till date. Having had players like Virat Kohli, Ab de Villiers, and Chris Gayle in the squad, it comes as a much of surprise to everyone as to why this team has an unsuccessful stint in the tournament till now.

RCB have reached three finals till now and have lost all three of them. They just seem to succumb at the crucial junctures of the game. Although the team boasts of world-famous players, their on-field performance has not been impressive that keeps them to the sixth spot with a brand value of $50.8 million in 2019.

They have seen a growth of 3.2% in their brand value.

5. Delhi Capitals (DC):

Delhi Capitals had a fantastic 2019 on and off the field. A change in name brought a change in fortune for the side as they reached the playoffs of the tournament for the first time in six years.

The Shreyas Iyer-led side finished on the third position and it was a major achievement for the franchise as they did not rise on the table beyond the sixth spot for six consecutive years.

This saw a major rise in their brand value too. They achieved a growth rate of 24.5% which is the maximum growth achieved by any club this year. Their brand value, as of 2019 was $54.2 million.

4. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH):

SRH have been among the most consistent teams over the last few years. They have stuck to their plans and executed them to perfection.

However, they are still one of the most underrated teams of the tournament. Their consistency can be viewed from the fact that they have reached every playoff since the last four seasons. They also won their maiden IPL trophy in under the leadership of David Warner.

Their brand value increased by 10.4% and is now $59.6 million.

3. Mumbai Indians (MI):

Mumbai Indians are the most successful franchise of the tournament having won four titles till date. Their success speaks volumes both on and off the field. Not only do they have the best players of the game, but their consistent performance has kept them at the summit for a very long time.

They are the current defending champions of the tournament and are one of the most possible title contenders of this season.

Their brand value has seen a 24.1% hike in 2019 and it now stands at $65.7 million which is the third-most.

After Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, KKR has the most decorated consistent performer of the tournament. Its has always had a star-studded lineup and has been one of the greatest teams of the tournament so far.

Their owner, Red Chillies, is a very popular media brand in itself in the country and that also leads to a rise in the brand value of the Kolkata-based franchise. Having lifted the IPL trophy twice, 2019 was not a good year for them on the field.

After a good start, they lost six games in a row and perished in the tournament. The brand value has grown by 7.7% and is $66.5 million in 2019.

1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK):

The MS Dhoni-led franchise has been the most loved team of the tournament so far.

A lot of it goes to Dhoni himself as he has become one of the most loved cricketers of all time in India. He is a cult figure in the southern part of the country because of his humility and dominance on and off the pitch.

CSK as a team is not only a beloved team in the nation but they have a major fan following all across the globe. They have been one of the most successful teams of the tournament. They have three titles in the bag. It is the only IPL franchise that has successfully defended its title.

CSK has a brand value of $75.3 million. It got a 16.4% hike in 2019 and it is the leading brand in the IPL.
