Perhaps, Mayank Markande is the current best leg-spinner available in the Indian Cricket to be the backup for Yuzvendra Chahal. The flamboyant cricketer took the limelight when he showed his brilliant skills for Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League 2o18. Now, he received a call-up for the National team after the show in the domestic circuit.

Markande received his maiden international call-up on Friday after being included in the Indian T20I side for the series starting February 24. The 21-year-old recently starred in the unofficial Test against the England Lions where he picked up a five-wicket haul to set up a massive win for India

The young leg-spinner added that he was disappointed after missing out in the selection for under-23. However, in the very same year, he was picked in the selection trials, which were conducted by Mumbai Indians. He thanked Rahul Sanghvi for identifying him and giving him an opportunity.

“In the IPL my mental skills improved, according to me, there is not much you can do in terms of improving your skills at this level. It was more reading the situations, performing well under pressure. Sanghvi sir was a big influence for me as he was also a leg arm spinner; he worked on me and he was there with me right from the first match and playing all the matches helped me improve as a bowler,” he explains.

Rohit Bhai’s presence in Mumbai Indians helped me –

Further, he went on to add saying that he learnt a lot during his stint with Mumbai Indians. He also added saying that the presence of Rohit Sharma has been a great boost for him in order to learn a lot.

“I had gone to the trails for Mumbai Indians and there Rahul Sanghvi sir noticed me, in fact, he was the one to call me up and tell me about the auction pick,” Markande tells CricketCountry.

”And the biggest learning for me as a bowler came after being a part of the Mumbai Indians setup. Rohit [Sharma] Bhai’s presence was a confidence booster for me and there were youngsters from different parts of India and I learned a lot there,” he added.

Well, it was just the start of the something big for Markande as he became the leading-wicket taker as well at one stage of the IPL 2018. Markande played all of Mumbai Indians’ 14 matches and impressed with his 15 wickets at 24.53 with one four-wicket haul as well.

All in all, it is going to be a big platform for Mayank Markande to show his ability to the world. If he performs well, he would certainly be the standby for Yuzvendra Chahal for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019.
