Williamson has been a good T20 player for number of years says Tom Moody

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach, Tom Moody has hailed his skipper Kane Williamson, who has led the team from the front in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Meanwhile, Hyderabad sits at the top of the points table mainly because of their bowlers. They have mastered the art of defending low totals and have the best bowling unit in this edition.

The likes of Rashid Khan and Siddarth Kaul have performed consistently throughout the season.

Moreover, Williamson has amassed 410 runs at an average of over 51. The Kiwi skipper is placed fourth in the most run-getters list after featuring in 10 innings.

Williamson has also filled the void left by former skipper David Warner, who missed the tournament due to suspension.

The calm and composed character Williamson, who is poles apart from Warner has led remarkably and are on the cusp of qualifying for the playoffs.

Moody hails Williamson’s leadership quality

Keeping aside his batting abilities, he has been inspirational as skipper. Williamson, with plenty of bowling options around him, has ensured regular conversations with bowlers.

Unlike Warner, Williamson had led New Zealand in all the formats. And the manner in which he has used his bowlers, especially spinners, has impressed all.

Moody hailed Williamson’s game reading ability and admitted that he knows how to manage pressure situations.

Kane is very astute. We’ve seen that with him captaining the New Zealand side. He has transitioned into that role here,” said Moody as he was quoted by Hindustan Times.

He is not that old when it comes to international cricket captaincy. But he has a very wise head and reads the game very well in pressure situations. It is great to have Kane take that responsibility,” he added.

There has rarely been a moment in international cricket where Williamson has let go of his emotions.

But in IPL Williamson has expressed himself on a couple of occasions under the guidance of Tom Moody.

The pace and emotion are of different kinds in Test and T20s. While Test is a grind, T20 is fast and furious where even the most subdued character will get a little bit emotionally connected. I don’t think he has gone over the top, he just cares,” Moody concluded.
