Veteran allrounder Irfan Pathan could not help but post a very emotional tweet after his elder brother Yusuf Pathan failed to get any bid in the recently-concluded auction for IPL 2020. Yusuf Pathan had registered himself at the base price of INR 1 crore. But despite the veteran batsman being one of the most decorated players in the history of IPL, there were no buyers for him.

Along with Yusuf Pathan, a number of other big names went unsold too. Kings XI Punjab, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals were the only three franchises who managed to fill up their squad with the full quota of 25 players. All the franchises though, made sure to complete the quota of 8 overseas players.

Yusuf Pathan is now set to miss the first season of IPL since its inception way back in 2008. The right-handed batsman will go down in history as one of the most decorated players of IPL. He started his journey with Rajasthan Royals and played a huge role in their miraculous march to the trophy. In the inaugural season, Yusuf Pathan scored 435 runs and took 8 wickets.

He recorded the season’s fastest half-century (from 21 balls) against the Deccan Chargers, and was also the Man of the Match in the final against the Chennai Super Kings. In 2010, he scored a century off 37 balls against Mumbai Indians.

In the 2011 IPL auction, he was bought for $2.1 million by Kolkata Knight Riders and won two IPL titles with them. In 2018, he was snapped up by Sunrisers Hyderabad and played two seasons for the team. He, however, failed to live up to the expectation and was released by the franchise before the auction.

Irfan Pathan’s message for Yusuf Pathan:

As soon as the auction came to an end, Irfan Pathan took to Twitter to post a message for his brother. The former India allrounder called the IPL setback a ‘small hiccup’ and hailed his brother as a real match-winner. Irfan posted a picture of himself celebrating with Yusuf after India’s triumph at the 2007 T20 World Cup and wrote:

“Small hiccups doesn’t define your career, you have been outstanding thru out. A real match winner. Love you always Lala @iamyusufpathan”
