Of late, the performances in limited-overs format is helping the bowlers to make it into the Test squad. Moreover, for India Kuldeep Yadav has got the nod from India after his stunning spell in the limited-overs’ series. Much to the same, England cricket pundits and selectors were in favour of welcoming premiere leg-spinner Adil Rashid back to Test circuit. But, the cricketer-turned-commentator  and the former England batsman Nasser Hussain isn’t happy with the call.

Nasser Hussain warns selection panel to not get in a tangle over spin selection regarding Adil Rashid:

The former batsman is in no favour of picking Rashid in the side. He feels it is an injustice to the youngsters. The veteran also warned England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) national selectors to not get into the trouble by picking him.

Nasser furtherly asked Rashid to play some red-ball county cricket in order to be picked by the selectors. He felt that the career of Rashid hasn’t gone in a right way as he concentrated more on a white-ball format.

”Adil Rashid might have made himself available for England’s first Test against India. But I’d warn Ed Smith and his selection panel not to get themselves in a tangle over the spin issue. Yes, Rashid has suggested he would be prepared to resume his international career in all formats,” Nasser wrote for Daily Mail.

”But I’m not sure that’s the way it works, Adil. You have to make yourself available for your county, play some red-ball cricket, then see if the selectors pick you. I haven’t got a problem with Rashid. It’s his career, And I felt he is a little hard done by at the end of the India tour 18 months ago,” he added to his lines.

It is a harm to youngsters’ careers: Nasser Hussain

Nasser feels that the inclusion of Rashid in Test matches based on ODI performances is unfair. He cited it especially to Dominic Bess and Leach, who earned through their hard work.

”Jack Leach and Dominic Bess, the two men identified by the selectors as the best frontline spinners in the country, need to be treated properly. I don’t think it would be a great statement to tell those lads — Leach in particular — that there has been a rethink and England are going back down another road. It wouldn’t be fair and could harm their careers,” Hussain added.

However, as Nasser Hussain said, the selection of Adil Rashid on the basis of limited-overs format sends negative vibes to the youngsters.

Bess has been fantastic with his efforts when he made his debut against Pakistan.
