South African left-hand batsman, JP Duminy conveyed that there is no added pressure on him or the side to step-up after Ab de Villiers retirement from international cricket. However, the former wicketkeeper-batsman de Villiers announced his shocking retirement in May, this year.

Villiers stated it was the “right time” to say goodbye following 14-year long international cricket career. Moreover, this left a void in the Proteas team, and they have to fill the void quickly ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019.

Furthermore, Duminy said he doesn’t think it will be a huge responsibility. He also added that he is more excited about the opportunity to fulfil the gap of de Villiers.

Duminy also asserted that any batsman would like to bat within the top three and top four in One-day Internationals and Twenty20 cricket.

“I don’t think there is more responsibility. I’m more excited about the opportunity, any batter would like to bat top 3 and top 4 in one-day or T20 cricket, but it’s also understanding the make-up of the team.”

However, Duminy also said that he was playing at number five position in the latest series against Sri Lanka. He preferred to bat at number five, and he was doing the same in the series.

JP Duminy also added that no one knows what can happen in the future. And he will try to hold the position in the team and will try to fulfil the gap left by AB de Villiers.

“So if you look back to Sri Lanka, I batted at No 5 for most of the games. If I’m playing that is most probably going to be my position. In saying that who knows what the future will hold in the next couple of months leading into the World Cup,” Duminy asserted.

Moreover, Duminy also said that right now he is not focusing on the World Cup 2019. He is concerned about the couple of tours that he has to play before the mega event in England.
