Pakistan fast-bowler Junaid Khan has launched a stinging protest towards Pakistan Cricket Board after being dropped from Pakistan’s final World Cup squad. The left-arm fast-bowler was in Pakistan’s preliminary squad. However, he could not find a place in the final squad announced on Monday. Along with Junaid, Faheem Ashraf and Abid Ali have also failed to retain their places in the squad.

Pakistan raised quite a number of eyebrows by dropping the trio in order to make room for fast bowlers Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz and batsman Asif Ali. All the three players had failed to make it to Pakistan’s preliminary World Cup squad. In fact, Wahab was not even a part of the squad that recently played an ODI series against England.

Amir was given a chance to prove his worth in the five-match ODI series against England. However, he went down with chicken pox and took no part in the series. PCB has now confirmed that the pacer has recovered from the illness. Perhaps Amir’s experience of playing in England worked in his favour. The left-arm pacer has struggled to pick wickets in recent times. Since the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final, Amir has sent down 101 overs across 14 innings and picked up just five wickets. His strike-rate of 121.2 in this time is almost thrice his career-strike-rate of 41.2.

Wahab, on the other hand, had completely fallen down the pecking order in Pakistan team. He had last played an ODI in a group stage clash against India during the Champions Trophy. Unsurprisingly, he was not even in the reckoning for a place in the team. However, PCB dropped a huge surprise by naming him in the squad along with Amir.

As expected, the decision has not gone down well with Junaid as he took to Twitter to show his protest. The left-arm pacer posted a photo of himself with a black tape on his mouth, writing:
