The proliferation of the novel pandemic Coronavirus (COVID-19) has put the entire world under a lockdown. Almost every sporting event from the Premier League to Olympics and Wimbledon has been put on a backburner.

As far as cricket is concerned, its premier franchise event Indian Premier League has also landed in cold waters. And, so with no action on the cricket field, cricketers are doing all sorts of stuff ranging from making Tik Tok videos to conducting live chat sessions with fellow cricketers to answering questions posted by fans on Twitter.

Marnus Labuschagne, on the other hand, is doing none of this stuff as he is busy honing his batting skills with a heavily taped tennis ball in his backyard along with his mate in Brisbane.

“I’m lucky enough that I’ve actually got one of my best mates living with me at the moment. He’s in isolation with me. So I and he are getting a few throw-downs, and doing a bit of training,” Marnus Labuschagne was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

In a video posted by his Big Bash team Brisbane Heat, Labuschagne can be seen taking throwdowns from his friend with his dog also involved in the drill.

“That’s about as much cricket as I’m getting … a taped-up tennis ball in the backyard with a dog thrower. I’m playing a little bit of tennis, where it’s allowed with the isolation rules to get my fitness in,” he added.

Coming in as a concussion substitute for Steven Smith during the Ashes last summer, Labuschagne has stamped his authority with disdain with a volume of runs and has never looked behind since then. And, the isolation period has given him time to reflect on what he has achieved thus far.

“The game had moved so quickly for me in the last 18 months I hadn’t really had time to sit back and go ‘this is what I’ve achieved, this is what I’ve been able to do. This time now makes you sit down and reflect on what’s happened and how it’s all unfolded,” he said.
