Meet The 14-Year-Old Who Has Made It To The IPL 2020 Auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) never fails to throw surprises and the upcoming IPL 2020 auction looks set to continue that trend. In the upcoming auction, Afghanistan’s latest spin Noor Ahmad Lakanwal could become the youngest player to get an IPL deal. At 14 years and 344 days, he has already become the youngest cricketer to be part of the IPL auction.

According to reports, Noor Ahmad Lakanwal was one of the bowlers who was called for a trial with Rajasthan Royals. If everything goes well for him this year, he could also become the youngest debutant in IPL this year. In the last season, Prayas Ray Barman became the youngest player to debut in the IPL when he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore at the age of 16 years and 157 days.

Noor Ahmad Lakanwal is a chinaman bowler and is a regular member of the Afghanistan U19 team. He was one of the most successful bowlers in the U-19 Asia Cup, taking eight wickets. The youngster hails from Khost Province.

He was also the Emerging Cricketer in the Sphageeza League — Afghanistan’s franchise-based domestic tournament. He was first spotted by former Afghanistan captain and the national selector Raees Ahmadzai last year.

“I saw him for the first time during U-19 trails. When I become the head coach of U-19 I picked him and he did very well. I so impressed [by] his bowling,” Ahmadzai told Sportstar.

The youngster also impressed during Afghanistan U19’s tour of India. He picked up nine wickets in the five-match series although Afghanistan lost the series 2-3. Noor Ahmad Lakanwal has been also named in Afghanistan’s U19 team for the upcoming U19 World Cup in South Africa. Meanwhile, the auction for the next auction will take place on 19th of this month in Kolkata.
